The Person of the Spirit

The Person of the Spirit
(May 2013 - Week 2)

(1). John 14:16-17 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to help you and be with you forever-- 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

(2). Acts 5:3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?

(3). 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.

(4). “Clearly the Holy Spirit is not merely a quality to be found in the divine nature … He is a holy intelligent person.” [John Owen, The Holy Spirit]

(5). Prayer thought: As a person, the Holy Spirit speaks both to us and through us. Because the Holy Spirit is a person, he cannot be deceived by anything we may think, say, or do. He is able to show us how to pray, even as Jesus taught his disciples to pray.
