Hinderances to Prayer

Sin (August 2013 - Week 3)

(1). Jeremiah 7:12-16 "'Go now to the place in Shiloh where I first made a dwelling for my Name, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel. 13 While you were doing all these things, declares the LORD, I spoke to you again and again, but you did not listen; I called you, but you did not answer. 14 Therefore, what I did to Shiloh I will now do to the house that bears my Name, the temple you trust in, the place I gave to you and your ancestors. 15 I will thrust you from my presence, just as I did all your fellow Israelites, the people of Ephraim.' 16 "So do not pray for this people nor offer any plea or petition for them; do not plead with me, for I will not listen to you.

(2). Psalm 66:18 If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; ...

(3). James 1:13-15 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

(4). “He who seeks God and who yet is unwilling to forsake sin, will not find Him because he is seeking Him where He cannot be found. [Jeanne MarieBouvier De La Motte Guyon, A Short Method of Prayer]

(5). Prayer thought: Sin hinders prayer. The solution to resolving that hindrance is a prayer of repentance, seen in the example to Israel - 2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
